A new agreement to end a backlog at the state hospital at Pueblo is being hailed as a sweeping reform to provide service to criminal defendants who are mentally ill.
“This is a big deal for Colorado,” state Attorney General Phil Weiser said in a statement. The hospital has not been able to keep pace with providing competency restoration treatment needed by hundreds of mentally ill persons charged with crimes across Colorado.
